One solvent cement, three pipe systems

A common assumption in this category is that PVC, UPVC and CPVC each require a separate cement. In our range they do not. MAGPOW's pipe cement is a single-component, solvent-based adhesive formulated to bond rigid PVC, UPVC and CPVC pipe and fittings. The joint is not glued — the solvent softens both surfaces so that they fuse into one continuous material as it evaporates.

What varies across the range is packaging, viscosity and colour, not the base chemistry:

· Rigid PVC and UPVC — drainage, sewage, water supply lines and electrical conduit, cold water systems.

· CPVC — hot water lines. The formulation is rated for CPVC piping systems up to 82 °C / 180 °F.

· PVC-to-CPVC transitions — the same product covers the joint where a PVC run meets a CPVC section, which is why a distributor can carry one SKU instead of three.

Cure behaviour, from our published data: initial set in 5 to 10 minutes, handling strength at 2 to 3 hours, and full strength at 24 hours — the point at which the line can be pressure tested.

Most of our pipe cement leaves the factory under someone else's brand. What can be specified:

· Label and pack — bottle silkscreen printing, label artwork, carton markings, blister card and display box design.

· Formula — viscosity between 300 and 15,000 mPa·s, setting speed, and colour to match local market expectations and climate.

· Format — 50 ml tube through 1 L can, plus US pint and quart tins.

· Order size — trial quantities through full container loads.

Storage, handling and shipping

Solvent cement is a flammable product and has to be stored and transported as such. In practice that means a dangerous-goods declaration for ocean freight in most markets, ventilated storage away from ignition sources, and containers kept tightly closed between uses to prevent solvent loss. Shelf life is 12 months; cement that has visibly thickened or separated should be replaced rather than used.

If your market requires a particular DG classification, label language or packaging marking, raise it at quotation stage — it is easier to build into the order than to correct afterwards.
